Like wine? You should probably visit South Australia then…
We flew into Adelaide and drove down to the wine region for a long weekend. We visited Clare Valley, Barossa Valley, and Adelaide Hills.
I absolutely loved the countryside. I didn’t expect the region to be so dry – and so incredibly beautiful. We were greeted with bright blue skies, and dry fields with a patchwork of vines.
We stayed in the Clare Valley, and the plan was to cycle the Riesling Trail. But then it was 40 degrees, and that idea went out the window after about 20 minutes, and one wine tasting.
So back we went, and we had to drive.
Top region: The Clare Valley – there are so many wineries to choose from, you really can’t go wrong. There seemed to be more smaller sized wineries compared to the Barrosa.
Our favourite wineries: Shut the Gate (Shiraz), Skillogalee (Port), Tscharke (Grenache)
Best view: Paulette Wines
Where we stayed: Riesling Trail & Clare Valley Cottages. It’s right on the trail, and you can hire bikes directly across the road.
Top tip: If you’re going to ride the Riesling trail, maybe don’t plan to do so in Summer. I’m very keen to go back and do this in winter.
We collected wine along the way, and then shipped a mixed case back to home Brisbane. Most wineries will do this for you.
